Climate Change Retreat for PSMC Pastors

Picture
The Full Circle Project recently partnered with the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions to offer a FREE Climate Change Retreat to 28 of our pastors and church leaders.  The retreat addressed widening the church's perspective of the church's witness to include a response to climate change as well as the potential impact of rising sea levels on Southern California.

Mennonite Creation Care Network

PSMC encourages its churches to connect with Mennonite Creation Care Network (MCCN), a Christian organization affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA and the Mennonite Church Canada. The network's primary focus is the Mennonite community, but anyone who wishes to be part of a faith-based network of people engaged in caring for creation is welcome to join.

MCCN encourages the Church to:
  • Claim its biblical and theological foundation regarding the care of God’s Creation.
  • Discover the ties that link all created beings to each other and to God.
  • Confess the harm we have caused the natural world and our neighbors.
  • Act faithfully to restore the earth.

As a network, they…
  • Engage people with their peers and facilitate partnerships.
  • Gather and share faith-based resources.
  • Bring lessons learned by individual congregations to the broader community.
  • Support each other in prayer.

A Rocha SoCal

PSMC is committed to being good stewards of God's creation.  In order to assist our churches in their creation care initiatives, our Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference has ordained Mark McReynolds as a Minister of Environmental Ministries. Through A Rocha SoCal, which Mark McReynolds is the director of, he can resource our churches to organize eco-service projects, eco-audits of church buildings, and create creation care church curriculum.

A Rocha USA is an 18-year-old Christian conservation organization. A Rocha (pronounced “uh RAW sha”) means “the rock” in Portuguese reflecting its 1983 start in Portugal. SoCal A Rocha began in 2018 and works with schools, churches, camps, and other conservation organizations. With a mission to restore both people and places, SoCal A Rocha trains people to lead education and conservation activities: Creation Sunday, VBS, and coming soon, Sunday School curriculum. SoCal A Rocha also leads activities for churches: service projects/field trips, eco-audits, and short-term ecomission trips to sister A Rocha sites in 20 countries.
